The Tribute in Light is a memorial public art installation that was presented six months after 9/11. Then every year thereafter on the night of September 11 it has become an iconic symbol for honoring the people who were killed in the attack.
From assembling in the battery roof parking garage to the southern part of the 9/11 Memorial the twin beams advance up to four miles through the sky. Then consisted of 7,000-watt xenon light bulbs placed into two 48-ft squares. This installation also can be viewed from at least a 60-miles radius around lower Manhattan.
Tribute in Light was designed by several artists and designers. John Bennett, Richard Nash Gould, Julian LaVerdiere, Gustavo Boneverdi, Paul Myoda, and lighting consultant Paul Marantz are taking part in creating this outstanding memorial.
Tribute in Light now partnering with NYC Tourism and said.
As an extension of Tribute in Light, for the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we are once again partnered with New York City Tourism + Conventions and buildings throughout the city who will light up their facades and rooftops in sky blue. “Tribute in Lights” is a unique but simple gesture of collective remembrance that illuminates the city each year on the evening of September 11 from dusk until dawn.
